Sarah Torribio and her right brain. Music. Musings. Writing. Style.

If you list, in order, each of the studio albums (I’m throwing in one live album, Nocturne) by Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure, you very nearly have an Imagist poem.

Again and again and again, not only are you jumping someone else’s train but–when listening to these two legendary goth-rock bands–you are asked to make mental pictures. Many of them are strange. A few are unsettling. Many of them are beautiful.

It would be quite an experience to take either of these discographies and write a poem incorporating all of these titles. I think I may try it. Fellow writers, I have a poetry prompt for you.

Some cracking albums in there my dear. Especially Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography by the Cure. I am a bit hung up on Juju by Siouxsie atm. It just has a certain sound that is really special (Sin in my Heart is just awesome). A poem incorporating all album titles would be an interesting challenge indeed. And yes, these do all conjure up some very interesting images. Thank you for a great post. You have very fine taste 🙂

Thank you. I appreciate it. You’re a kindred musical spirit. I’m sure you’ve listened to some of the Creatures and, even better, that one-off album by The Glove, Blue Sunshine.

        Hi Sarah 🙂
Not sure why but it isn’t allowing me to reply on your blog so I am hoping this gets to you….
Yes, I think we are kindred music spirits too!
Blue Sunshine. Yes, I remember that but not heard it for years. Will have to have another listen.
Joy Division and All About Eve are excellent too. Would be interested what other music you like. My favourite ever is Bowie. He was just amazing.
        Bestest Wishes,
        Mik

Smiths, Bombay Bicycle Club, all kinds of things. I’m currently wowed by a song called “Pressure” by My Brightest Diamond. I’ve had gigs as music reviewers in the past, make music and am a Rain Man-like music savant.

Hmmmm. I appear to have met my match 😀
I thought my taste went far and wide. I am impressed!
People have told me I am like a walking NME or Melody Maker (when these were still a physical publications).
Do you know A Whisper in the Noise? I recommend ‘To Forget’ as an album.
        Also, Gravenhurst. Especially Flashlight Seasons.
Will be interested in knowing your thoughts my dear….. 😉
