Battlestar Eclectic

Sarah Torribio and her right brain. Music. Musings. Writing. Style.

“Catch My Fall” is arguably Billy Idol’s most lush and romantic song. It’s an extremely dynamic song, shifting from pillow-talk seduction to an octave-straddling peak.

As for romanticism, just listen to the beautiful serenade by saxophonist Mars Williams. It could have been lifted from a track by New Romantic icons Roxy Music.

I’ve just learned that Mars Williams, who died in 2023, was an adept jazz as well as rock musician. Along with adding a touch of gold to music by Billy Idol, he also played with The Waitresses and the Psychedelic Furs. What a curriculum vitae!

If you want to make yourself smile from ear to ear, listen to Williams jaunty, celebratory horn in the Waitresses classic Christmas hit “Christmas Rapping.”

First, though, listen to “Catch My Fall” by Billy Idol. Behind the leather and studs, the skin and the snarl, the song is lovely.
