“Pirouette” by Ain’t is a brand new bit of buzzy, shoe-gaze, noise-pop.
The song is hot off the presses but, for this Gen X-er, hits nostalgic as an old prom dress. And no wonder. The 5-piece London band describes themselves as “channeling the stranger end of ‘90s guitar music.”
The resulting soundscape is cozy as an afghan, provided you’re the type that can snuggle with a bit of moodiness. And there are some lovely threads woven in there, including sorbet-sweet vocals and guitar by turns fuzzy and anthemic.
The opening riff, by the by, calls to my mind the Pied-Piper-like opening notes of Led Zeppelin’s “Over the Hills and Far Away.” Any other comparison stops there.
I’m already entangled on a quantum level with Ain’t. I sense the world is in need of this sonic air freshener of a band.
