Battlestar Eclectic

Sarah Torribio and her right brain. Music. Musings. Writing. Style.

My song of the day is “I Won’t Share You” by The Smiths. It’s off the 1987 album “Strangeways, Here We Come.”

It’s very sparely produced: Just Morrissey’s famously plaintive voice and the autoharp. It’s a stringed instrument whose chimey sound is reminiscent of a harpsichord. It lends this tune a timeless feeling.

This is no symphony, however. Just a lovelorn vocalist and a plucking of strings, both the unconventional instrument and of the listeners heartstrings. the result is a duet as intimate as a journal and quiet as a music box.

What a charming, echoing, intricate Fabergé egg of a song!It should be better known.
