My song of the day is “Feeling Okay.” You might not know it from the big sound but Best Coast, which was formed in California in 2009, is a duo. It consists of guitarist and singer songwriter Bethany Cosentino and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno.
I’m shit at naming what genre the indie rock/alt rock music I favor falls into. The Best Coast website offers a number of suggestions, though, including indie pop, surf music, lo-fi, garage rock and power pop.
Whatever you call it, Cosentino has a honeyed voice, with a delivery that can go from with edgily deadpan to emotive. And the prevailing guitar riff in “Feeling Okay,” off the group’s 2015 album California Nights, is gorgeous. Jangly, echoey, surfy, pretty and sad.
