My song of the day is “Lazy Eye” by Silversun Pickups. I’m pretty sure it’s been my song of the day in the past, because I’m an on-repeat kind of music fan.

If this is the case, it bears repeating because “Lazy Eye,” off the band’s 2006 album Carnivas, is liquid gold.

What an exquisite guitar jam this is! A home-brewed and distinctly hypnotic bass-line serves as a tarmac for the lead guitar. And that lead just keeps wandering and climbing until you’re about ready to board a roller-coaster to the stars. I’m reminded of another atmospheric home-run, “Jane Says,” by Jane’s Addiction. A spell of chaos weaved around a foundation of exquisite simplicity.

These bands thatexcel on vinyl but are even better during the live experience. The musicians are psycho-nauts, crafting a symphony so complex, unexpected and random that it’s virtually unrepeatable. It will always expand and contract, like jazz.

And I don’t even like jazz, though I hope to remedy that some time. I know it’s the wave of the future.

Great post. I have to admit the same relationship with jazz. With a close friend who’s a prominent jazz musician, I’m working on it. 😉 Will check out this song.
