I know, I post the same songs on repeat.
I know, I post the same songs on repeat. But it doesn’t change the fact that this song is a raspberry sorbet, cleansing the palate of my beleaguered mind.
Or something like that. Lead singer Elizabeth Stokes has a gentleness in her voice, almost a girlishness, as she climbs the staff without any fireworks. As for that button-cute Kiwi accent, I could listen to for days and weeks.
The guitar gets unexpectedly layered and buzzy at the end, helping”Expert in a Dying Field” by The Beths stray far-afield from folk music.
Now don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with folk music. But when it comes to a breakup song–this one a resigned, wistful drift, quite the opposite of the volleys of iniquities cataloged in Alanis Morrissette’s ” You Oughta Know”–I like something from the British commonwealth.
I like some shoe-gaze, with guitar riffs so warm and fuzzy they should sell the record at Minky Couture.
