Sarah Torribio and her right brain. Music. Musings. Writing. Style.

I can never get over the craziness of vintage products and ads.

I thought the kind of candy cigarettes that made a puff of smoke, when you exhaled, actually powder–which I bought more than once from the ice cream man as a kid–was enough encouragement to smoke.

This product takes it a step further. The packaging of these candy cigs shows a wholesome tot looking up to his ultimate role model, emulating his pop’s vices as well as his strengths.

Are you old enough to remember the televised antismoking campaign of the late 60s/early 70s? When that got rolling, I began cutting my mother’s cigarettes in half and sticking them back in the pack. I’m absolutely gobsmacked every time I see someone with a cigarette. It’s a vice that hasn’t made sense to me since I was 8 (and I’ll tell you, I’ve embraced a lot of vices in my day).

I’m an ’80s kid and we got lots of anti-smoking messages. I have some smart people I care about who smoke, and an aunt who is living with COPD after a life of smoking.
