I’ve got this thing where I can hear songs within songs. I’ll give you an example. Sublime’s “What I Got” is so fun and happy-making. It’s also, as it starts, nearly identical to the Beatles’ “Lady Madonna.”

There’s also a part of Green Day’s “Jesus of Suburbia” that is nearly a note-for-note replica of the climax of Brian Adam’s “Summer of 69.”

Jesus of Suburbia:

“City of the dead (hey! Hey!)

At the end of another lost highway (hey! Hey!)

Signs misleading to nowhere

City of the damned (hey! Hey!)

Lost children with dirty faces today (hey! Hey!)

No one really seems to care.”

Summer of ’69:

“Standin’ on your mama’s porch. You told me that you’d wait forever. Oh, and when you held my hand. I knew that it was now or never. Those were the best days of my life.”

Do you hear it too? What other doppelganger songs have you noticed?
