My song of the day is “In My Heart,” some lovely indie/alt rock by Constant Smiles. Led by Ben Jones, the group is a music collective based out of Massachusetts, more specifically Martha’s Vinyard.

It beckoned to me from the first note. There’s are splendid dark-wave keys laying down an eerily introspective mood like a heavy fog. The song also carries a momentum shoegaze-smitten listeners will follow like the pied piper. The latter is caused by a marriage of simple, driving bass and taut drums. I always tend to go on repeat-mode when a band finds a hypnotic and stony riff and rides it like a horse until the end.

Jones is gifted with arresting cheekbones–a surface characteristic that is a happy accident of birth–and a fine, understated voice that goes down easy. Its framed by ethereal female backup vocals and an intricately braided production that makes the sadness epic.
