Battlestar Eclectic

Sarah Torribio and her right brain. Music. Musings. Writing. Style.

I need to listen to The Beths in order to–as one online astro-tarot reader I follow says–“calm my waters.” I am a music writer. I spent three years as a club reviewer for Music Connection as a young woman. Then I spent three years as a concert reviewer for the Reno Gazette’s Best Bets magazine in my 20s. I got to interview a bunch of cool people, all phoners, but still cool.

Can you imagine how it felt the moment I was connected to ADAM ANT! and Perry frickin Farrell!

Now I’m focusing on writing about music. It’s not always easy. It requires me figuring out what makes a song wonderful and interesting, and how it’s its own interesting. It’s a bit like figuring out how a canary sings. I’d like to write about what’s so special about New Zealand indie rock band The Beths, and why Elizabeth Stokes’ voice is so pretty as to be classified as asmr. Also, how can heavy guitar buzz, when swirling around a pretty quartet of power chords, be soothing.
